My Lucky Life In and Out of Show Business by Dick Van Dyke

I’ll admit I’ve always had a bit of an old man crush on Dick Van Dyke. I really loved watching Diagnosis Murder growing up. So, it was with a bit of trepidation that I read My Lucky Life In and Out of Show Business. I didn’t want the vision in my head of Dick Van Dyke to be ruined by Dick Van Dyke’s description of himself and his life. Happily, I think I actually like him more now that I’ve read his book than I did before!

My Lucky Life In and Out of Show Business, like most memoirs, starts with his childhood and progresses to his entry into show business, his several decades long career, and on to the present time. Mr. Van Dyke is very honest about both his mistakes and his successes. At times he seems shocked that he did what he did and made what he made and worked with who he worked with. He proclaims himself lucky on multiple occasions. For any fan of Dick Van Dyke, this book is a must-read!
