The Shifting Sands by Emily Rodda

Lief, Barda, and Jasmine are back and searching for the fourth gem belonging to the Belt of Deltora. Their destination, ultimately, is the shifting sands, the place where Lief knows he will be lost and terrified as he saw in his vision at the end of the third book. But, first, they decide to enter the Rithmere Games in the hopes of winning some gold to help them along their journey.

This fourth Deltora Quest book, The Shifting Sands, is another wonderful installment in the series. I highly recommend the series to people of all ages. They make a truly excellent family read-aloud for kids and parents of all ages.
